Oxenholme station is situated on the West coast mainline between Preston and Carlisle. The West coast mainline is the main London Euston to Glasgow line. It is known as Oxenholme the Lake district and where most people traveling to the lakes by rail would change from the mainline trains to travel up the branch to Windermere.
The branch line is single line in it's entirety from Oxenholme to Windermere

Please note there is no through bus service from Oxenholme to Windermere, there is a bus service from outside Oxenholme station to Kendal bus station where you can change onto a bus bound for Windermere and Keswick see my

Arrived at Windermere.

Ready to Depart.

Very quickly ready to depart but now Heading for Manchester Airport.

The End of the line.

Leaving just the End of the line. The building behind the buffers is a Booths Supermarket. In days gone by Windermere was a much grander station.
Once at Windermere I can strongly recommend a walk down to the lake at Bowness. Windermere at 10 miles long is England's largest lake. If you choose to do this walk out of the station car park to the road and turn left down the hill through Windermere town keep following the road down the hill and it will bring you to Bowness and the lake. It takes about 20 minutes to do this walk. There is also a bus that will take you to Bowness.
