How the Crooked Spire in Chesterfield Derbyshire became crooked.

The original drawing of the crooked Spire in Chesterfield.

The original drawing of the Crooked Spire.

A long time ago the spire on Chesterfield Church was straight just as it should be.

The Crooked Spire Chesterfield Derbyshire.

Everything as it should be.

Then one fine day the Devil was Passing through Chesterfield looking for some souls to steal. Then he saw the top of the Spire and thought it would be a good place to have a rest as stealing souls is tiring work.

The Devil at rest on Chesterfield Crooked Spire.

The Devil having a break.

An excited Devil.

Then just by chance two pretty young ladies in short skirts walked past. The Devil could not contain himself and had to bend down and have a look. Unfortunately as he did the the Spire went with him.

An embarrassed Devil.

Totally embarrassed by this the Devil spread his wings and flew away never to be seen in Chesterfield again

Crooked Spire Chesterfield.

And because of the Devil this is how the Spire looks today. To the Devils credit he did leave Chesterfield with a very famous landmark.
I wonder if the two ladies ever knew the effect thier presence caused that day.

Chesterfield Crooked Spire also gets a mention on my
